Amazing Stage Fabrics in Motion

Synagogue Amsterdam

The Netherlands
يناير 2011

Dutch designer Petra Blaisse integrated laser cut fabrics from ShowTex for her latest project: architectural curtains for the recently constructed synagogue of the Liberal Jewish Community in Amsterdam.

A unique feature of the synagogue is its wall of windows resembling a menorah. In order to preserve light and transparency, Blaisse choose fabrics and a design that filtered light but still let it shine through.

Two layers of fabric cover the synagogue's 50 windows. A white inherently flame retardant sheer hangs in front of a light blue cloth, laser cut with several small openings and silk screens printed with Hebrew texts. All drapes are seamless and were custom sewn on location by the ShowTex team. They are all installed on heavy-duty rails that won't bend under the weight of the curtains.
