Set designer Peter Bauer puts King Ludwig II in a contemporary setting with GiantMirror as eye-catcher.
Bauer used GiantMirror as a reflecting rear panel to make the austere black and white scene look like a gigantic reflex camera emphasizing the dark mood of the play.
The semi-transparent mirror foil is mounted on a custom-made truss frame measuring 6 metres in height and 10 metres in width, spanning the entire stage and also serving as a projection surface.
ShowTex installed an RP Grey projection screen in a second truss frame behind the mirror to create even more depth, resulting in a unique combination of front projection on the mirror and rear projection on the screen.
The giant mirror construction tilts forward during the play, offering the audience a unique view of the stage and the lavish costumes of the actors. The actors also interact with the different projections by means of smaller mirrors and videomapping.
