It began in 1983
Two friends, one workshop, and many nights backstage.
Koen and Wim shared more than a love for theatre. They shared a way of looking at scenography. And its dialogue with light.
Building sets taught them something early on: some materials slow you down, others set you free. Especially when scenes need to shift with the story.
They chose textiles.
Fabric is lighter, more flexible, easier to handle. And even more interesting once lit. That’s when a surface can glow, disappear or transform the entire space.
They moved from stage to stage, from one production to the next.
And quietly, things grew.
What fabric can do
Fabric is more than decoration.
It can soften light. Or sharpen it.
Carry sound. Or contain it.
Hide something. Or reveal it.
But working with textiles also raised new questions. About safety and durability. About scale, texture, stretch or reflection.
In our world, those questions are rarely abstract. They come from real venues, real deadlines and real ideas that need to work on opening night.
ShowTex didn’t grow from a master plan. It grew from talented people solving problems.
From listening, testing, adjusting and learning.
From staying curious, sharing knowledge and getting better together.
From one project to the next, one solution leading to another.
That way of working stayed.
What we create
Today, our focus is on flame-retardant fabrics and the systems that support them. To hang them, move them and integrate them into theatres, events or immersive spaces worldwide.
No two concepts are the same.
Some call for custom solutions. Others for adapting or renting. For using what already works.
Fabric is often the starting point, but never the whole story.
It has to be tensioned, rolled, opened, or dropped, right on cue.
Perform safely and consistently. Quietly in the background or at the centre of attention.
And none of that happens on its own.
Behind every project are passionate people who care about the details. Engineers and weavers, textile specialists, designers and installers. Working side by side so that when the moment comes, it simply works.
How we work
ShowTex teams work across Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Australia. About 400 talents worldwide.
People with different backgrounds.
Different skills.
Different perspectives.
One shared level of care.
That diversity shapes the way we work.
A mix of experience and fresh ways of looking at things. Ideas moving back and forth, becoming better than first imagined.
Projects rarely follow a straight line. Plans shift, venues change, ideas evolve.
We stay involved from the first conversation to the final installation. Working closely with designers, production managers and technical teams to understand what a space truly needs. And what it doesn’t.
Curtains and fabric elements are made to measure. Screens are welded, backdrops printed and giant mirrors tensioned. Track systems allow them to move, by hand or by motor. Straight or curved. Temporary or fixed. Rental or purchase, depending on what makes most sense.
The details can be technical, but the goal is simple: make things work.
And make them last. Especially when the pressure is on.
What comes next
Every project adds a new chapter to our story.
Another space shaped. Another scene brought to life.
