Festival of Lights

Dubai, UAE
May 2014

Downtown Dubai showcased more than 30 spectacular lighting and artistic installations when it hosted the Dubai Festival of Lights for the first time ever. A spectacular result was achieved using versatile ShowTex StretchTulle mesh to create various projection surfaces for some of the installations!

Using video mapping and LED projection, French stage director and composer Damien Fontaine created a visual narrative projected onto the façade of Souk al Bahar, depicting two characters in search of a hidden treasure. The open areas of this Arabian marketplace were covered in elastic StretchTulle mounted in print frame profiles to ensure the projected image spread out across the entire building.

Another installation focused on the ever-popular High Striker funfair game. Panels of StretchTulle on the façade of Emaar Tower 1 indicated the strength of each visitor striking the plate with a mallet. The harder they hit, the more panels that lit up Boulevard Plaza, with the circular StretchTulle panel as the ultimate goal!
