Amazing Stage Fabrics in Motion

Toots 90

Belgium
November 2012

The 90th birthday of international jazz legend Toots Thielemans saw a year dedicated to the man and his work in his home town of Brussels. ShowTex supplied decorative flame retardant fabrics for the exhibition Expo Toots 90 as well as the temporary event space the Toots Theatre both housed in the centrally located Vanderborght Building in Brussels.

Stand and set designers PN Standenbouw & Interieur together with French theatre director and scenographer Pierre Jaccaud created and realized the “shoebox” concept for the exhibition. As visitors walk through life size shoe boxes representing the various periods in Toots’ life and career, they end up in a vast jazz club coloured Blue Note blue throughout. The space is filled with a multitude of blue velvet curtains from ShowTex and invites visitors to sit in the plush seats facing a stage to enjoy live and projected concerts and images under a canopy of bright fabric banners lining the room’s skylight ceiling.
