“The Third Light” is a collaboration between the English choreographer David Dawson and the Royal Ballet of Flanders. The work is one of three very different performances grouped under the title Grand Egards to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Ballet. The minimalistic scenery design by John Otto only appears simple. In fact, the sharp architectural angles and shades of grey onstage are vital to the performance.
Interaction of light and movement of the dancers on the theater draperies and scrim creates an extra dimension. ShowTex fabrics make up the entire scenery decoration for this performance. Scrim fabric, Gobelin Tulle in white and grey and meters of Cyclo 270 canvas were used for this ultra modern set. The Royal Ballet of Flanders performs Grand Egards in the Flemish Opera through February 14.
