Clusters of Light

Sharjah, UAE
May 2014

The city of Sharjah recently opened its very own Roman-style amphitheatre, covering an area of 7.238 square meters and accommodating up to 4,500 people. The monumental theatrical performance "The Clusters of Light" was the first show to be hosted in this open-air theatre.

Right from the start, ShowTex was closely involved in the project, as the stage was completely filled with SowTex Stage fabrics and frames! A supporting structure of Print Frame Profiles served as the backbone for the whole set of the operetta while a massive jointless StretchTulle projection backdrop with Molton CS backing enabled the video mapping and laser effects during the show.

The centrepiece of the stage was a large Print Frame Cube that entered and left the stage through large doors built into the backdrop. All four sides consisted of StretchTulle and Molton CS, creating a solid projection surface all around. A HiSpeed 8000 system could make the Molton backing disappear, leaving only the translucent StretchTulle for the stunning visual effects.

"Clusters of Light" kicked off the celebrations of Sharjah Capital of Islamic Culture (SICC) 2014, and is considered one of the largest theatrical and musical productions in the UAE.
